Dear Parents,
Welcome to the IB Middle Years Programme Parent page! The Middle Years Programme (MYP) at North Atlanta High School aims to help IBMYP learners to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. The learning experiences will allow your child to gain analytical skills to promote informed decision-making, engage in teamwork and collaboration, frame their own inquiries, pursue personal aspirations, set challenging goals and have persistence to achieve them. He/she will work towards a deepening of their conceptual understanding as they approach concepts from a range of perspectives. IBMYP Assessments aim to support and encourage your child's learning by providing feedback and promoting deep understanding of subject content by supporting their inquiry in real-world contexts. A year-long IBMYP personal project accompanied by a journal is to be produced at the end of the 10th grade year. The personal project enables your child to engage in practical exploration through a cycle of inquiry, action, and reflection.
On behalf of the IBMYP teachers, thank you for your support!

Why should I be excited that my child is an IB MYP student?
Life-Long Learners- IB strives to create life-long learners by
-promoting positive student attitudes towards learning
-supporting holistic learning so that students see how subject areas connect to each other and the world in which they live
-developing a set of skills, rather than just content knowledge
- promoting the use of higher-order thinking skills in every subject area
Real-World Application- IB uses assessments to prepare students for a world beyond schooling by
- allowing students to apply their learning skills and course content (as determined by State standards) to assessments that simulate real world situations
-giving students opportunities to reflect on their learning to be aware of personal growth
- giving students opportunities to make an impact on their community and explore their natural curiosities
- asking kids to find solutions to problems rather than telling them how to do it
Additionally, IB encourages students to focus on more than just learning! MYP also incorporates a type of character building within the community of the classroom and school.

What happens after 10th grade?
At North Atlanta High School, all students in grades 9-10 will be in an IB curriculum. Once a student reaches their junior year of high school they may elect to continue on through the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme in their final two years. The IB Diploma Programme is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, juniors and seniors, for success at university and life beyond. The programme is taught over two years and has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities. Every year individual university policies have moved in a favorable direction for IB students.
The IB Career-related Programme (CP) is for students who wish to focus on career-related learning in the last two years of secondary school. The CP combines the highly regarded and academically challenging courses from the IB Diploma Programme (DP) with practical, real-world approaches to learning. All of the elements of the CP help students develop the communication, personal, and academic skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
For more information on the Diploma Programme and/or the Career-related Programme, contact Ms. Danielle Costarides, IBDP and IBCP Coordinator (see contact us page) and click here.
